   Course Description

Symbol's Wireless Intrusion Protection System (WIPS) is a hands-on lab-based course that covers the following areas of study:

  • Observe over 15 common WLAN attacks
  • Explore wireless intrusion detection and protection features, including: security threat index, intrusion analysis, station behavior analysis, WLAN health and congestion indicators, WLAN utilization indicators, and forensic analysis
  • Manage users, assign roles and set up user preferences
  • Organize sensors and approved APs, stations and devices for efficiency of attack detection and analysis
  • Set configuration, vendor, channel and termination policies, including automatic responses to attacks
  • Set up Symbol Wireless Intrusion Protection System
  • Manage alarms
  • Handle rogue APs
  • Analyze threats
  • Handle mobile device attacks
  • Perform forensic analysis


   Course Objectives

After completing this course the student should be able to:

  • Explain the basic concepts of wireless intrusion detection and protection, including: types of wireless intrusion; wireless security and cryptology; different types of detection; and reactions to intrusion
  • Set up multiple sensors
  • Recognize common WLAN attacks
  • Explain the threat index and threat priorities
  • Deal with rogue APs and stations
  • Configure policies
  • Authorize stations and mobile devices
  • Manage alarms
  • Utilize reporting features
  • Set up and manage notifications

  • WS2000 Wireless Switch Systems
  • WS5100 Wireless Switch Systems
